Want to know why I haven’t shared the front of our house?

Ok, I’m here to dish the DIRT, literally! So, the reason I haven’t shared the front of our house and yard is because the builder sodded only a portion of our yard, the rest of it was basically farm grass and weeds. We can mow it and it looks nice, but the farm grass grows out of control and we were tired of trying to maintain it.
So what did we do? We scrapped the farm grass and weeds with the tractor. This is how it looked in the spring. We had to remove the rock french drain, and then the whole section of farm grass and weeds.
We are in a VERY rocky terrain, so once we scrapped the ground there were rocks EVERYWHERE, especially under the grass. I now cringe when I hear anyone mention the word rock, as this was such a problematic situation trying to hand pick all the rocks, not fun!
We decided to rent a machine called the…..
R O C K    H O U N D
The Rock Hound sweeps up the rocks and puts them in a bucket and then you dump them. You can see after using it, it leaves the ground soft and smooth, free of rocks and debris, what a difference!  We also used a Rock Rake attachment on the tractor, a life-saver!
After preparing the ground and soil, we were ready to seed for grass. Afterwards, we put down hay so the seeds can germinate. Now it’s up to the sun and sprinklers to grow a pretty lawn.  In two weeks, we should see a HUGE difference.
We also mounded up a landscape bed around our two fruit trees.
We waited all summer for the fruit to grow, now we have more fruit than we know what to do with!
We also have an Italian Pear Tree.
It’s amazing how much works goes into landscaping a big yard, but we are having a blast doing it ourselves.
Soon, the front porch will be decked for Fall and then Christmas….
I can’t wait to show you the yard when it’s pretty like a golf course, at least….that is my dream, ha! We will see….
Thanks for visiting! xoxo ~Liz

  1. I can't wait to see it, Liz!! Your yard will be GORGEOUS!!! I do have to say I love the more wide open photos you shared in this post. The interior shots are sometimes so close it's hard to visualize the space. I'm not finding fault, just an observation as to how the decorations/decorating would look in certain situations.

  2. Hi Susan,Thanks for visiting. Also, thank you for the observation, I appreciate the feedback. I completely agree. I used my good camera years ago and then when I got my iphone, I stopped using it. I need to pull out my camera and my wide angle lens and start using it. I was just thinking the same thing myself the other day, lol! πŸ˜‰ Thanks, friend! πŸ™‚ xo, Liz

  3. Hi Liz- I am back after taking a blogging break. What a big job that is. When we were kids we had to rock pick on the farm. My father would pull a pallet along on chains. We would ride on the pallet and pick up the rocks and place them on the pallet. When it was full it was dumped in a stone fence and we would repeat…over and over and over again. lol Great memories now- NOT so much fun then. Your yard is already looking gorgeous. Good job!!!! xo Diana

  4. Wow, Liz you have an amazing new home and the yard is huge and gorgeous! I can't wait to see the finished result. It must be wonderful to have all that space around your home. I must say our new home has the tiniest lot. It is the one complaint I have about our neighborhood is that the homes are just too close for comfort. Sigh.

  5. Thank you so much, Liz, for understanding my thoughts! I sensed you had stopped using another camera. I LOVE your home and well, I realize you may want to protect your privacy, but I really liked the shots of a whole wall so I could get the sizes and color combos in relation to a room. Also, thank you for coming back!! So many of us missed you! Hugs!

  6. Wow ! Such a gorgeous home and landscape ! I love your fruit trees , you are very blessed =) look forward in seeing your final work .I think your home is beautiful as is already ! God bless you and your family Liz !

  7. Liz, you have a beautiful home. I came across a video that you did for Savvy Seasons on how to make a fall deco mesh ball. The video no longer comes on and I was wondering if you would do one for this blog? I really like it and I am not sure the date of it but it sits on top of a scripted vase. Plleeaaassseee

  8. Thank you so much! It's definitely been a learning process, lots of trial and error, but you learn quickly what works and what doesn't. The Tractor has been the best investment, ever! πŸ™‚ Thx for visiting! πŸ™‚

  9. So sorry for the late response. The Deco Mesh Ball is SUPER easy to make. I went to Michael's and purchased a Christmas Tree Ball, and all you do is buy your deco mesh and tie it into the ball using the branches, kind of like twist ties. Poof the mesh as you work your way around the ball, add in some decorative ribbon, tie the ribbon in using the branches and you are done! πŸ™‚ Hope this helps.
